Summer cruise boom in Tianjin Port

Since the start of summer 2026, Tianjin International Cruise Home Port has processed over 90,000 inbound and outbound passengers, including nearly 66,000 travelers, marking a year-on-year increase of close to 20 percent.

The cruise ship AIDA Mediterranea docked at Tianjin International Cruise Home Port on Aug 17 with more than 2,100 passengers in the morning and set sail again in the evening with nearly 2,200 guests for a six-day-five-night voyage.

The surge is attributed to relaxed visa-free transit policies and the China-South Korea "dual home port" initiative. International passenger traffic rose by nearly 15 percent, with South Korean travelers jumping by about 50 percent and Russian visitors also seeing notable growth.

To handle the peak season, the Tianjin Dongjiang border inspection station coordinated with port authorities and cruise operators, streamlined inspection procedures, deployed additional officers, and fully utilized facilitation measures such as visa-free entry for foreign tour groups, 240-hour transit visa exemption, and online arrival card filing to speed up clearance.

Looking ahead, Tianjin will launch a "no-destination" cruise at the end of August, while two luxury vessels are scheduled to visit in October. The border inspection station pledged to ensure security, optimize services, and support the high-quality development of the cruise industry while enhancing the passenger experience.
