Tianjin Port saw a solid first quarter, recording steady growth in both cargo and container throughput and securing a strong start for the year.
From January to March, the port handled 124 million metric tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 4.1 percent. Container throughput reached 6.25 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 9.5 percent.
Behind the growth is a series of targeted measures by Tianjin Port Group to improve efficiency and services. The port continued to optimize logistics channels and expand domestic and international shipping routes while enhancing multimodal transport networks.
Leveraging its port and rail advantages, Tianjin operated 192 China-Europe and China-Asia freight trains in the quarter, up 9.7 percent, while sea-rail intermodal volume rose 7.1 percent to 408,000 TEUs.
Integration between the port, industry and the city also deepened. The maiden voyage of the largest privately owned cruise ship Visio operating from Tianjin as its home port, increased imports of fresh goods such as cherries, blueberries and shrimp enriched local consumption, while cultural and tourism activities added new vitality.
Meanwhile, innovation and sustainability continued to advance. Smart technologies, including automated equipment and AI-powered systems, improved operational efficiency, while green energy initiatives enabled full coverage of renewable electricity for port operations.
