Binhai Railway Station

3.滨海站.jpg

[Binhai Railway Station, formerly known as "Yujiapu Station."]

Binhai Railway Station's design is inspired by marine culture, drawing on the spiral shapes of the nautilus and the sunflower. Its form starts from a circular double-spiral grid, which is stretched to create an initial plane. This plane is then numerically “suspended” to form the primary structure, before being reversed into a shell-like shape. After further adjustments to its size and height, the design achieves a transparent, open, bright, and innovative architectural space, perfectly blending structure and architecture.

The station's roof features a shell-shaped spiral structure, creating a light, open, and airy space. Viewed from the northwest, it resembles a seashell; from the southeast, it evokes the transparent dome of a blue whale. The ground level of the station house is covered by a large-span "shell-shaped" steel structure with a membrane roof, using the same new membrane material as the "Water Cube." This material provides excellent light permeability and high safety. The intricate spiral design allows natural light to flood the waiting area, creating a bright, transparent space that combines technology and art in a visually stunning way.
